Beston Society
at Windmill Weekend
The Henry Beston went full throttle into Eastham's
Windmill Weekend on Sept. 10 and 11, maintaining
an exhibit table (above right) and entering its first-ever
float in the big parade on Sunday.
The float (shown at right), with our own Henry
Beston clad in a sailor suit in the back, included a picture
of his famous "Outermost House" on the front,
the Beston Society logo on the back, and the "Eastham
Loves Henry Beston, Father of the National Seashore"
on the sides. Henry threw everything from candy to maracas
to asparagus to the crowd that lined Route 6 from Brackett
Road in North Eastham to the Windmill for the "Carnivale"
theme parade.
Many visitors took time to stop by the Beston
Society table, located on the Depot Road side of the Windmill
Green, just under the blades of the famous Windmill. Don
Wilding (shown at right with two visitors), Jon March, and
Robby McQueeney of the Beston Society were on hand to distribute
literature and sell Beston / Outermost House items, and
to answer questions that the public had about the famous
Cape Cod author and his literary classic.
People weren't the only ones stopping by.
As was the case with dozens of grey seals swimming by a
Beston Society walk on Coast Guard Beach for the Cape Cod
National Seashore two years ago, dozens of dragonflies (one
shown at right) seemed to be quite taken with the Beston
Society's literature last weekend.
